The Working Man's University: The First Polytechnic' was issued by the Central Office of Information . The photographs show groups at work in classrooms, overseas students, workshops and laboratories. The captions often name the students featured and describe the work they are carrying out.

The University Archive holds a set of the final published images, with the captions printed underneath the image. There is also a larger proof set of images, and related correspondence.
