Minute book for meetings of the Governing Body from 26 October 1947 to 18 December 1961, dealing with such matters as student political organisations; appointments of staff and governors; Kynaston Studd Memorial Fund; estates issues; clubs and societies; Polytechnic Touring Association (PTA) shop rent (18/07/1949); change to cinema film showings - foreign films (18/07/1949); resignation of Lord Hailsham as chair of governors (20/02/1950); Quintin School; scholarships, medals, trophies and prizes; Quintin Boat Club alcohol license (16/04/1951); World War Two memorial (16/07/1951); cinema canopy (19/01/1953); Rebuilding of ladies pavillion at Chiswick (16/1959); salaries; provision of alcoholic refreshments.

Also includes dates of terms of office of individual governors and their attendance at meetings.

Polytechnic Cinema/Theatre

This series includes all leases, files and correspondence relating specifically to the hall at 307 Regent Street used variously as a Cinema and Theatre.

Agreement for tenancy of the Polytechnic Theatre

Agreement for tenancy of the Polytechnic Theatre 307 Regent Street from Sir Kynaston Studd to Walter Pearce and Sidney John Wright trading as Walter Pearce. Includes correspondence on headed paper from Walter Peace, european representative of Wurlitzer Cinema Organs and the Polytechnic Theatre regarding authorisation for cheques.

Includes stipulation that the tenant can use the Hall between the hours of 11am and 11pm except for Sundays, Christmas Days and Good Friday for the purposes of 'conducting cinematograph [cinema] exhibitions, dramatic performances and other entertainments'. The rent is to be: the first £50 in weekly receipts paid as minimum rent, the next £250 to be allowed ot the tenant for expenditure, the balance of weekly takings up to be £135 to be divided and paid as 75% to the Landlord and 25% to the tenant, the balance of weekly taking above £435 to be paid as 20% to the Landlord and 80% to the tenant. The Landlord will provide a kiosk for which the tenant can sell chocolate, sweets, cigarettea, cigars and tobacco, for which the Landlord will receive 10% of gross receipts. The tenant is not to give any performance derogatory to the work of the Polytechnic. The tenants have the right to erect a Wurlitzer organ at the back of the stage. The tenants shall provide an efficient musical accompaniment to the performance if necessary. The tenants have the right to sublet for up to 3 months.All performances shall be submitted to the Landlord at least 7 days in advance. Includes regulations with regards to copyright music.

A memorandum notes that the rent was to be increased to £80 a week from August 1929. Annotated 'expired'.
