Papers relating to members of the Hogg family and their involvement in the Polytechnic. Papers include orders of service for memorials, press cuttings and biographical books, publications, and some christmas cards and thank you letters sent by members of the family. Quintin Hogg's papers also include more memorabilia and a few photographs, as well as papers of his executors.

Letter from Quintin Hogg to members

Addressed from 'The Polytechnic' and to 'my dear - -'. The letter discusses the size of Poly membership and what it means to be a Poly boy, the idea of the Poly as a second home and his hopes for the Poly, the trouble the English have in expressing their feelings, New Year's Resolutions, and invites the recipient to a Service. The letter also entions an enclosed card 'bearing a word of Godspeed for the coming year' [missing]. The number '3000' is written in pencil in the top-hand corner in pencil.
Attached to the letter is a note regarding the card which the manufacturers have not yet finished and will be forwarded on in a day or two.

There are two copies of this letter. One has '3000' written in the top left-hand corner in pencil and seems to be the original. The other is a printed facsimile of handwritten letter sent by Hogg to Institute members. The former also has a note inside regarding the card which the manafacturers have not yet finished and will be forwarded on in a day or two. The latter is annotated in pencil 'Q.H.'s last letter'.

Unfinished letter from Quintin Hogg to [his son Douglas Hogg]

Letter on The North British and Mercantile Insurance Company, 61 Threadneedle Street headed paper to 'my precious boy'. The letter gives advice on the intended recipient's 'doubts and difficulties'. Hogg offers advice and writes: 'Don't confuse theology and religion. the one is a science to be proved or disproved - the other is a life to be lived'.

The envelope is annotated 'Quintin's unfinished letter found lying on his desk' in Alice Hogg's hand.

Letter from Quintin McGarel Hogg [Rt Hon. Viscount Hailsham] to Bernard Studd enclosing "Quintin Hogg's last letter"

Letter addressed from 'H' at The Corner House, Heathview Gardens, Putney Heath, SW13 to Studd at the Polytechnic. Enclosed is his grandfather's last letter, found among his grandmother's papers, as a gift to the Polytechnic, together with copies of two letters from his grandfather to his father. The letter refers to publishing the letters in the Polytechnic Magazine.
